The Misrach Handicraft Centre was started as a work of the Swiss Evangelical Nile Mission in Ethiopia in 1964, working to train and rehabilitate disabled people. Since this time they have successfully trained and rehabilitated thousands of disabled people.

When appropriate, Misrach encourage those whom they have trained to branch out on their own. Three such ladies now comprise the group now known as “Misrach Fre”. When this idea was first muted, the three ladies felt that they were being “pushed out of the nest” and they weren’t too happy to say the least! But their own success since then shows the wisdom on Misrach’s part, and the simple truth that part of growing into your full potential often involves some seemingly tough decisions on the part of those who want others to flourish and mature and not to remain dependent.
